About the painting: Soul, acrylic on canvas, 2026 In ancient Greece, the word psyche was used to describe the essence of human life. It came to mean both soul and butterfly, reflecting an ancient understanding that the two share the same nature. Like the butterfly, the soul is born with the impulse to transform. Neither remains as it begins. Both are shaped by unseen processes that ask for patience, surrender, and trust. Their deepest guidance does not come through certainty, but through an inner knowing that subtly leads them toward what they are becoming. The butterfly travels extraordinary distances with wings that seem impossibly delicate. The soul, too, carries a resilience that no one usually understands. It endures loss, change, love, and uncertainty, always moving toward a deeper expression of itself. Our physical life is brief, yet the longing to grow, create, and become more fully ourselves feels timeless. We hide our gentleness because we are afraid it will be mistaken for weakness. But it is through gentleness that the creative mind speaks. And it is through creativity that we move beyond ourselves and discover a greater strength. There is no true strength without gentleness.
