Original WWI German M1917 Eierhandgranate Egg Grenade – Inert – Complete Fuse
Original First World War Imperial German Model 1917 Eierhandgranate, commonly known as the “Egg Grenade.” Introduced during WWI, the compact Eierhandgranate provided German troops with a grenade considerably smaller and easier to carry and throw than the larger Kugelhandgranate and stick-grenade designs. The later M1917 n/A pattern incorporated the distinctive raised central gripping band visible on this example. This is a particularly displayable example retaining extensive black-painted finish, together with its removable friction igniter and pull-wire loop. The photographs show the igniter removed, clearly demonstrating that the grenade body is completely empty and inert. Condition is very good for an original item more than 100 years old, with age-related paint loss, surface wear and oxidation adding considerable character. Original WWI German military collectable. Completely inert and empty with no explosive content. For historical display/collection only.
