About the wine The result of rigorous selection at each stage of production, in both the vineyard and the winery, this great, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon wine is typical of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Structured and tannic but with all the elegance and refinement of a Grand Cru Classé, with time it develops a delicate and complex bouquet. The wines have considerable ageing potential and are exceptionally long-lived. Certain vintages (1921, 1929, 1982, 1990, 2009) are considered legendary. The 2018 vintage was very successful for the region. Typical blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, cabernet Franc. 75cl bottle. Abv 14% Bottle condition, Capsule excellent, label excellent, wine level high fill 22/03/2026 -94 Points Inky blackberry and cassis with faint violet, graphite, leather, anise and liquorice. Brooding and impenetrable on the nose, the mouthfeel is surprisingly sweet and silky with velvety tannins (a rarity for Montrose), lingering with chocolate and mocha-infused finish. Spicy, lush and imposing, the 2018 is unusally open-knit and expressive after brief aeration, with all the elements perfectly fused.
