The Art of the Gurgle Discover the charm and history of the iconic gurgling pitcher while creating one of your own in clay. In this two-session class, you'll handbuild a whimsical and functional pitcher using pinch pots and slab construction, then return two weeks later to glaze your finished piece. Along the way, you'll learn about the fascinating history of the gurgling pitcher, first produced in England during the 1870s and later popularized by makers such as Wade Ceramics and Dartmouth Potteries. You'll also discover the simple science behind its delightful gurgling sound, created when the pitcher is filled about three-quarters full, allowing air trapped within its tail and internal chambers to bubble and resonate through the open mouth as the liquid pours. Whether used to serve water, wine, cocktails, or displayed as a vase for fresh-cut flowers, your finished pitcher will be both a conversation piece and a functional work of art. This class is perfect for beginners as well as experienced clay artists looking for a fun and rewarding project. Pre-Registration is required.
