RIDGE – Handmade Marbled Porcelain Cup Designed and made in our studio, RIDGE is a handleless cup for filter and black coffee. Brew to a server and pour into the cup — a light pour leaves room above the coffee to swirl and nose it, and keeps the cup comfortable to hold. It takes a cappuccino or flat white too, for anyone who wants one. The shape is one we know well. RIDGE is an extended Cup S, a form that has been part of the studio's range for some time — now drawn taller, with a defined edge around the body. Same family, new proportions. The cup narrows below the rim, then opens at the lip. The wide, open lip spreads the coffee across the palate and sets how it meets the tongue — where sweetness and acidity register first. This is what RIDGE is built for: clarity on taste. Where a tulip profile concentrates aroma, an open shape like this brings sweetness and acidity forward. A study by Carvalho & Spence (2018) tested the same coffee in different cup shapes and found an open, flared cup made both read as more intense — for home brewers and professionals alike. A light pour — around 100ml — leaves room to swirl and nose the coffee the way you would when tasting, then refill from the server as it cools. The shallow pour cools through a range from first sip to last. Each piece is hand cast, which creates the marbled pattern that runs through the porcelain — no two are identical. Glazed to a gloss finish and fired at 1260°C. Holds ~300ml to the brim — 9cm opening, 8.5cm tall. Handmade in Glostrup, Copenhagen.
