These cow bells are from the Karamajong people of northeastern Uganda. Hand-forged from iron with a hand-woven collar they are tied around the necks of prized livestock allowing herders to keep track of the animals across vast savannahs. Cattle represent cultural prestige and the sound, quality and presence of traditional iron bells on the herd reflect this deep, enduring bond between people and their livestock. They are a deeply symbolic artifact, also used in traditional ceremonies to bless cattle and ensure herd prosperity before seasonal migrations. Stand is included. Please note stands may have minor imperfections.
