Vintage Tailor’s Hand-Sewn Wool Sample — c.1930s–1950s A fascinating piece of vintage textile history, believed to be a tailor’s practice or demonstration sample, worked in a soft grey-beige wool cloth. It is 34cm long. The piece has been constructed to reproduce the front of a tailored garment, complete with a beautifully shaped lapel and collar, small pocket and finely hand-worked buttonhole. Pieces such as this were made to practise or demonstrate tailoring techniques. They could form part of a tailor or dressmaker’s training, allowing individual construction methods to be mastered without making an entire garment. A wonderfully tactile little survivor from the workroom — especially appealing for anyone interested in historic dressmaking, tailoring and hand-sewing techniques.
