Château Micalet Haut-Médoc 2020
Château Micalet carries a legacy spanning generations. Classified "Cru Artisan" in 1893, this Haut-Médoc estate was acquired by the Fedieu family in 1972 and converted to organic farming in 2006. The 10-hectare vineyard sits on deep gravel beds, planted at traditional density with a signature blend: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot—a varietal the Fedieus champion for its structure and character. Hand-harvested grapes undergo 3–4 weeks of fermentation, then age in barrel with 30% new oak. The result is a wine of remarkable depth: dark plum and cassis on the nose, layered with vanilla, baking spice, leather, and floral notes of violet and rose. On the palate, lush black cherry meets graphite and iron minerality, supported by medium acidity and supple tannins. Dense at its core with impressive length, this is a compelling expression of terroir and tradition—exceptional value in its class.
