Chateau Haut Bailly Vintage 1981

Château Haut-Bailly is located in Pessac-Leognan on the left bank of the Gironde. Half a century ago, the Cabernet Sauvignon dominant wine frequently commanded the same prices as the first growth wines and, in the 1959 Graves classification, the château was given Grand Cru Classé status. Its wines remain well-regarded and often critically well received. The 981 vintage was a good one for the region, but suffered coming just before the exceptional 1982 vintage. Typical Blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc. 75cl bottle. Abv 12% Bottle condition capsule good, label good, wine level very top shoulder. Tasting Note 31/01/2023 - 91 Point Served at cellar temperature, not decanted Some sediment, slightly hazy though this does not affect the taste. Scarcely any signs of age On paper, a lesser vintage; highly enjoyable to drink. Light (rasp)berries, almost Burgundian in style.
