It forms dense clumps of narrow, dark green, blade-like leaves and is a genuinely versatile terrarium and paludarium ground cover — not a true submerged aquatic. Care tip: Kyoto Dwarf Mondo Grass is best grown emersed in terrarium or paludarium conditions with consistent moisture rather than fully submerged — it can tolerate brief underwater stays but will decline with long-term submersion. This dwarf variety thrives in soil kept lightly moist but well-drained, tolerating temporary drought thanks to water-storing root tubers while poor drainage or standing water leads to rot.
