Anubias barteri 'Coin Leaf', or coin leaf anubias, is an uncommon form of the species with unusually round, coin-shaped leaves in a deep green. The rounded foliage gives a bold, textural contrast next to fine-leaved plants and mosses, and it sits comfortably in the midground attached to hardscape. In your tank it grows slowly and is easy going, happy in low to medium light with no CO2 needed. It is an epiphyte, so it is at its best fixed to driftwood or rock rather than set in the substrate, where its compact leaves and dark colour stand out. It adapts well to a wide range of water and asks very little once it has settled. It is grown in sterile tissue culture and arrives in a densely packed cup, free of snails, algae, pests and disease. This is one of the cleanest ways to bring a new plant into your aquarium.Care at a glance Placement: Midground, attached to hardscape Lighting: Low CO2: Low, not required Growth rate: Slow Difficulty: Beginner Colour: Green How to plant your tissue culture Anubias Rinse the clear nutrient gel from the base of the plant. Divide it into small portions, each with a piece of rhizome and a few leaves. Attach each portion to driftwood or rock with cotton thread or glue, keeping the rhizome sitting above the surface so it does not rot. Leave the roots and rhizome undisturbed while it grips on and settles in.
