Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons F/W 1999 Black Tunic with Chrome Rings
Highly collectible runway piece from the Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons Fall 1999 collection. This collection known as the "Couture Casual" collection famously explored themes of modern romance and avant-garde functionality, with a take on Christian Dior's "New Look" silhouette through a technical, Japanese lens. Watanabe's distinctly innovative style is eloquently captured in this idiosyncratic piece. Form over function, but well worth the trade. This tunic blouse wraps around the arms as a reimagined poncho. Six large interlocking chrome rings gather the black beaded silk through eyelet holes. The silk exterior is adorned with surface embellishments consisting of soutache embroidery in a floral motif with scrolling vines decorated with glossy black beads and sequins. The gathered silk creates a uniquely draped hemline with an asymmetric handkerchief style line. The interior is lined with satin rayon cupro. No closure, pull-over style. Exceptional, rare and elegantly avant-garde. Museum worthy. Excellent condition. One size fits most. Shoulders: 19" Chest + Arms: 41" Waist + Arms: 45" Length: 28"-35" Neck: 22"
