A pair of matching embroidered textile fragments, circa early 1900s, likely salvaged from the hem of a woman's dress given their scale, hand-stitched in colorful silk floss in multiple horizontal bands of scrolling and geometric motifs. The repeating pattern includes interlocking S-scrolls and small floral forms in maroon, green, blue, and orange on a cream ground. Sourced in Afghanistan in the late 1970s. Why We Love It The repeating scrollwork is neat and well executed. Maroon, green, blue, and orange combine without overwhelming the design. Detailed handwork, preserved even apart from the garment it came from. Provenance: Circa early 1900s, Afghanistan; sourced late 1970s Dimensions: Each piece approximately 15 inches (38 cm) long x 4.7 inches (12 cm) wide Condition: Excellent worn condition, with some loose threads and stains around the border.
