1932 Selmer "Cigar Cutter" Alto Saxophone, s/n 16749. Officially named the Super Sax, this model is much better known by its nickname, "Cigar Cutter", earned for the distinctive octave mechanism, which features a circular cutout that resembles, well, a cigar cutter. This horn was just serviced by my repairman prior to listing. The pads are on the older side, but they've been adjusted and seal well. He also replaced the neck cork and seven key corks. The result is a saxophone that plays easily and evenly across all registers, with action that feels smooth and buttery under the fingers. Tonally, this horn feels distinctly like a vintage Selmer, but with a sweetness and songlike quality that later models tend to lose. Don't expect this one to blow a door down. It's not built for raw power, but it rewards players looking for nuance, with real depth for tonal exploration and expressive playing. As with most saxophones of this age, the lacquer is no longer original. The horn comes with its original case, which is in good shape and still has its leather bound corners; a nice detail unique to cases from this era.
