(Note first engraved in running script, second officially impressed. Lieut Colonel John Joseph Cronin was born on the 25th September 1860 in Ireland. He Initially served in the Middlesex regiment as 2nd Lieut from 11th August 1880, promoted Lieut 1st July 1881. He joined the Bengal / Indian Staff Corps on the 16th February 1884, assistant Commissioner, 4th grade in Burma. He held charge as Cantonment Magistrate and Judge Court of Small Causes, Thayetmyo, from 19th to 30th November 1886, and from 26th February 1887 to 14th January 1888.
