Built in 1972 to herald a new era for blended Scotch, its first spirit ran in 1974 and went straight into the engine room of J&B. When the distillery finally bottled a single malt in 1986, it was the first ever to carry the 'Singleton' prefix, the name Diageo would later build a global brand on. It was also an unsung pioneer of cask finishing, moving ex-bourbon whisky into ex-sherry casks before Balvenie or Glenmorangie made the practice famous. Dram Mor's take is the oldest whisky in this import: a 16 year old Auchroisk, distilled in 2009 and finished in a first fill bourbon hogshead that loads the distillery's malty, nutty spirit with vanilla and orchard fruit. Single cask #811778, bottled 2025 at a cask strength of 53.8%, non-chill filtered, natural colour, 336 bottles worldwide. The Whiskey Lab's allocation is just 30 bottles. Imported by The Whiskey Lab. About Dram Mor Dram Mor (Gaelic for "big dram") is the independent bottler founded in 2019 by husband and wife team Kenny and Viktorija Macdonald in Dumbarton, Scotland, where Kenny's grandfather was head foreman at Hiram Walker's Dumbarton distillery. What began as an export agency for Scottish brands became a family of single cask bottlers with one simple rule: choose individual casks that showcase the best of every whisky, and bottle them at cask strength, non-chill filtered, at natural colour. Their casks now reach some 25 countries, Michelin-starred restaurants included. This is Dram Mor's first release with The Whiskey Lab. Distillery profile, Auchroisk Built in 1972 as a model modern distillery; first spirit ran in 1974 and joined the J&B blend from 1978 onward. First bottled as a single malt in 1986, and the first distillery ever to use the 'Singleton' name, per Dram Mor's own label. An early pioneer of cask finishing: it decanted 10 year old ex-bourbon whisky into ex-sherry casks for two years of secondary maturation before the practice had a name. Today a Diageo workhorse whose clean, nutty, malty spirit rarely appears as an official single malt, making independent casks the way in. The cask A hogshead is the cooper's remix: bourbon barrel staves rebuilt into a roughly 250 litre cask, giving slightly more spirit per cask and a slightly gentler oak influence than a standard barrel. As a first fill ex-bourbon hogshead, this one still carried the full Kentucky payload: vanilla, honey, coconut and soft baking spice, the classic frame for a malt-driven Speysider with 16 years behind it. Bourbon-cask Auchroisk at this age is how the distillery's fans want it: nothing hiding the spirit, everything amplifying it. One cask, 336 bottles, 30 of them in the US through The Whiskey Lab. Tasting notes (Dram Mor) Nose Sweet, fruity candy, vanilla and very delicate allspice. Palate A mouth-watering sweet dessert of a dram. That beautiful fruity note is still there in abundance with roast peach and pear drizzled in a rich syrup with a tinge of the most gentle spices. Finish A medium length finish which leaves a subtle oakiness in the most pleasant of ways.
