This slow-melting formula forms a breathable barrier on the skin while nourishing with deeply restorative, whole-ingredient fats and butters. Unlike conventional chemical sunscreens, this balm uses non-nano zinc oxide, which sits on the surface of the skin to help reflect and scatter sun exposure while remaining gentle and non-irritating. Red raspberry-infused olive oil and carrot seed essential oil are traditionally valued for their skin-supportive properties and are combined with tallow, shea butter, cocoa butter, and beeswax to create a protective, water-resistant balm that melts smoothly into the skin. Many mass-produced tallow products are rendered at very high temperatures, then deodorized and sometimes bleached to remove natural scent and color. This process strips away many of the delicate, skin-loving nutrients that make real tallow so beneficial in the first place. At Herb House Apothecary, we use only pure suet, never meat trimmings, sourced from a trusted local farm right here in Central New York. We render it ourselves in small batches at low, controlled temperatures to preserve its natural integrity, vitamins, and fatty acid profile. Every jar is handcrafted in our home with care, intention, and respect for the animal. This is real, traditional tallow, the way it was meant to be. A Note About Summer Heat: Please note this is a natural, tallow and butter-based product. With warmer weather, keep it out of direct sunlight or hot cars just in case, and get to your mailbox ASAP. it’s still fully usable if softened, just stick it in a cool location to firm it back up.
