Step 1 — Choose your option Choose Option A, B or C first. A Option A Traditional Conversion Kit Best suits: If you already have compatible poles and are confident in DIY to cut and crimp the plastic inserts into place per the instructions (allow 1-2 hours). What we supply: We will supply a bag of loose plastic inserts and the correct mounting hardware. Uses your existing poles. Requires cutting / removal of existing fittings New fittings inserted and secured into poles Lowest-cost option if poles are compatible Note: The above image shows contents for Option A, Mounting Kit 1 Pole requirements You must have: 6 x upright poles (Pole A) 2 x roof rafter pole (Pole B) 1 x roof rafter bracket on the trailer at each end The above poles must be 25mm OD at the thick end and 22mm OD at the thin end B Option B Hot Swap Pole Kit Best suits: If you have compatible poles but do not want to cut them. (30 min install) What we supply: We will supply some complete poles and some half poles which assemble easily with your existing poles to get the full required pole configuration You simply telescope apart your existing upright poles. To then assemble the end with a spike into our supplied half poles. No cutting required, reversible if you wish. Great for resale value giving the new owner the factory option if they want it and also the improved bed fly conversion kit. Quick decision guide All options finish at the same end solution, the difference is that some take more DIY effort and because of that they are more affordable to buy! On the other hand, the more expensive options are supplied ready to go! Choose Option A if: Your poles are compatible You're happy to modify them (~2-3hrs work, once off) You want the most economical solution Choose Option B if: Your poles are compatible You do not want to cut them You want flexibility to swap back Choose Option C if: Your poles are missing Your poles are non-standard Your poles are not compatible You want a complete new kit, factory finished Step 2 — Choose your mounting kit After choosing Option A, B or C, choose Mounting Kit 1, 2 or 3. The mounting kit determines how and where the angled upright poles attach to the camper trailer. There are two mounting styles: Bolts Mounting and Bird Beak Plate Mounting, combined into 3 kit choices. Depending on the mounting kit you choose will define what ends we supply to you in Option A, or what pole types we supply to you in Option B or C. e.g. Any bolts mounting will be accompanied by bow end insert poles to suit the bolts mount. Likewise any bird beak plate mounting will be accompanied by bird beak peg polls Most Universal & most popular 1 Mounting Kit 1 Bolts front and back Universal and most recommended all camper trailers. ✓ Universally suits all outback, touring & bushpack models ✓All hardware provided ·✓ Most secure mounting style in high winds (The bolts act as a secure pin joint NOT a clip like the bird beaks) ✓Easiest to install on side rails underneath the main body iThis option also keeps all uprights consistent at both ends — no need to sort front and back poles when packing up or setting up. 2 Mounting Kit 2 Bird beak plates front and back Very rarely needed — only for 2019 Outback model or custom installs. ✓Bird beak plates at both ends (4 in total) iRequires a flat mounting surface iScrews not included — depend on mounting surface 3 Mounting Kit 3 Hybrid: Bolts one end, bird beak plates one end Hybrid approach for specific trailer configurations. iMixed Mounting - Bolts one end and bird beak plates the other. iBolts mounting hardware and 2 x Bird beaks supplied ! Screws for bird beak plates not included i2 Diagonal uprights with Bird Beak pegs and plates General guidance: Mounting Kit 1 is the most universal, it will suit all touring models, outback models and bush pack models. You may find some photos online of old outback models using bird beak plates on the rear bumper bar. We no longer recommended this because the poles sit too narrow and scrape on the slide out beds. However, The bolts mounting allows the poles to sit slightly wider once set up and means the poles are well clear of the sliding beds. This is a pole conversion kit only. The bed fly pictured is not included unless explicitly stated otherwise. Wind and tie-down advice A freestanding setup reduces the need for guy ropes and pegs, but it is not a licence to leave the bed flies unsecured in strong wind. In normal conditions the setup is typically adequate as installed. In strong winds, use additional tie-downs such as octopus / occy straps — hook them through the lower eyelets on the mesh and loop around the bed support poles. If the bed fly conversion kit is set up with the poles extended such that the bed fly material is taut this will put tension in the bed fly material making it difficult for the structure to fail in wind. Toolboxes and stone shields In most cases a front toolbox or stone shield does not prevent the kit from working. To check: Set up your bed fly using the traditional upright poles Take one of the corner uprights Bring its foot back to where you plan to mount the bolts This shows the path the diagonal upright pole will take in the converted setup. And you can now confirm if it clashes with the toolbox, stone shield or other hardware you have fitted. Frequently asked questions What does the bed fly conversion kit do? It converts your existing Jayco camper trailer bed fly into a freestanding structure, reducing setup time and reducing reliance on guy ropes and pegs. Does the kit include the bed fly? No. This is a pole conversion kit only. The bed fly itself is not included. Which option is best if I do not want to cut my poles? Option B is the best choice if your existing poles are compatible and you do not want to cut them. Which option is best if I do not have the correct poles? Option C is the best choice if your poles are missing, non-standard, or incompatible. Which mounting kit should I choose? For most customers, Mounting Kit 1 is the easiest choice.
