Deep Dome Mushroom Floor Lamp with Gill Detail
The cap sits heavy and round at the top of the log, a deep half-sphere of polished wood that looks like it weighs as much as a bowling ball and glows as warm as a campfire. Underneath, hundreds of carved gill lines fan warm amber light straight down onto the hardwood floor, the open book on the side table, and the steaming cup of tea beside it. The light pools beneath the cap in a tight, golden circle, leaving the rest of the room in soft shadow. The log stem rises from a thick round base, pale and knotted, still carrying the memory of the forest where it grew. Deep Dome Cap The cap is turned from a single, oversized block of solid wood into a deep half-sphere shape. Where a parasol cap curves gently and spreads wide and flat, this dome curves steeply from its peak, dropping straight down before sweeping inward near the rim. The depth of the dome is roughly half its width, creating a substantial, weighty form that looks solid and grounded even at the top of a tall stem. The outer surface is polished smooth with warm golden-brown tones, flowing cathedral grain, and natural color variation from pale honey near the peak to deeper amber at the rim. Underneath, hand-carved gill lines radiate from the center outward to the rim in tight, even rows. The depth of the dome means the gills are longer than on any shallow parasol cap, running several inches from center to edge. A built-in LED array sits at the cap-stem junction and projects warm light outward and downward through the carved gill channels. The deep dome shape contains and focuses the light, directing most of it downward in a concentrated pool rather than spreading it across walls and ceilings. The result is a reading light and task light wrapped in a sculptural shell. Dimmable from bright focused downlight for reading to a soft warm glow where the gill lines barely show and the pool of light on the floor shrinks to a faint golden ring. Solid Wood Log Stem The stem is a full section of solid wood log with the bark stripped by hand. The surface beneath the bark shows the natural character of the tree: long vertical grain lines, three or four dark knot holes at different heights where branches once grew, shallow bark-memory ridges, and the subtle curves and diameter changes of organic growth. The wood is pale golden cream in tone, lighter than the warm amber of the polished dome above. The surface is sealed with natural oil, preserving the tactile, rough-but-not-sharp quality of stripped wood. The stem stands straight with a very slight natural lean and taper. Turned Disc Base The base is a thick, turned round disc of solid wood in a warm honey tone that matches the cap. The flat top surface shows concentric turning marks and a smooth satin polish. The disc is wide and heavy, providing a stable, low center of gravity for the tall stem and heavy dome cap. A braided cloth cord exits from the back of the base and lies flat along the floor. A thick felt pad protects the hardwood underneath. Specifications Material: Solid wood, kiln-dried (deep dome cap + stripped log stem + turned disc base) Light: Built-in LED array, warm white, dimmable Power: Braided cloth cord with foot dimmer Cap: Deep half-sphere dome with hand-carved gill detail, focused downlight Stem: Stripped log, natural knot holes, grain ridges, sealed Base: Turned round disc, weighted, thick felt pad Finish: Natural oil on cap and base. Clear seal on stem. Cap depth-to-width ratio: approximately 1:2 Placement Built for a living room reading corner beside a wingback armchair, a home library, a study, or a bedroom reading nook where you want focused, warm downlight on your book, your journal, or your tea. The deep dome concentrates light in a pool beneath the cap rather than washing entire walls, making it ideal for intimate, cozy spaces where ambient room light comes from other sources. The sculptural log stem and heavy dome create a statement piece that anchors the corner of a room. Care Wipe the polished dome with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Reapply wood oil once a year. Dust the stripped log stem with a soft dry brush. The knot holes may collect dust over time and can be cleaned with a cotton swab. LED components need no maintenance. Avoid excessive moisture and direct sunlight. Handcrafted by Vietnamese artisans. The dome is turned on a lathe from a single oversized block of solid wood selected for clean, flowing grain and zero hidden defects. Turning a dome this deep requires removing enormous amounts of material and generates significant forces on the lathe, demanding exceptional skill and patience. Every gill line is carved by hand after turning. No molds. No CNC machines. No two lamps will ever look the same. Need a different size?
