He founded the Pennsylvania Stoners in 1979 — named for the Keystone State — and entered the American Soccer League with a roster built around local Allentown high school kids. In 1980, cheered on by a mascot named "Stoney" (an anthropomorphized rock), the Stoners went 19-4-5, rookie George Gorleku was named league MVP, and they beat Sacramento 2-1 before 7,723 fans to claim the ASL championship. Ehrlich won coach of the year.
