Scientific name: Corpuscularia lehmannii Common names: Ice Plant, Pebble Plant, Corpuscularia Ice Plant, or Lehmann’s Ice Plant Family: Aizoaceae (the Ice Plant family) 🪴 Appearance Growth form: A small, clumping succulent that grows in tight clusters or low mats. Leaves: Thick, triangular, and gray-green to blue-green in color. Have a waxy, smooth surface that helps retain moisture. Arranged in opposite pairs, often forming a stacked or geometric look — very distinctive! Flowers: Bright yellow, daisy-like blooms that appear mainly in spring and summer. The flowers open in full sun and close at night. 🌞 Growing Conditions Light: Loves bright sunlight – ideally 6+ hours of direct light daily. Indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window. Soil: Requires well-draining soil, such as a cactus/succulent mix or sandy soil. Poor drainage can easily cause root rot. Water: Drought-tolerant, prefers the “soak and dry” method: water deeply, then let the soil dry completely before watering again. In winter, water very sparingly (it goes semi-dormant). Temperature: Prefers warm, dry climates. Protect from frost – below 5°C (41°F) can damage or kill the plant. 🌼 Propagation Usually propagated by stem cuttings or division. Cuttings should be allowed to callus (dry for a few days) before planting in dry soil. ⚠️ Common Issues Overwatering → root rot (the #1 killer of succulents). Insufficient light → leggy, stretched growth (etiolation). Fungal spots → usually from excess humidity or poor airflow.
