Coffee here grows alongside banana trees and forest canopy, in a system that reflects both biodiversity and long-standing agricultural traditions. The estate itself is part of Mountain Harvest, founded in 2017 with a mission to improve the livelihoods of Uganda’s coffee farmers through education, regenerative agriculture, and direct engagement. What makes Kisoro unique is that it was created as a response to a simple but powerful challenge from a farmer: if you want us to take risks, you should take them too. That idea led to the development of estate farms where new techniques could be tested, refined, and shared. Today, Kisoro operates as a kind of living laboratory. Everything from tree spacing to shade management to processing protocols is carefully observed and adjusted, with the goal of raising quality not just here, but across the broader farming community. This lot is naturally processed, beginning with careful sorting using float tanks to remove defects before cherries are dried on raised beds. The extended drying process allows the fruit to fully influence the seed, creating a cup with structure, sweetness, and a distinctly wine-like character. Kisoro coffees have already begun to gain international attention, appearing in championship routines and helping to showcase the potential of Ugandan Arabica on a global stage. For us, this coffee represents more than a single harvest. It reflects a shift in how coffee is grown, tested, and shared, with producers leading by example and pushing the boundaries of what the region can achieve.
