Double Braided Rug
Early 20th c., New England. Found in Maine. Optical and highly graphic composition - one rug creating the illusion of two. A deliberate and skilled construction. Single continuous three-strand braid, densely worked and fully hand-laced with commercial cotton cord. All wool throughout. Settled aniline dyes, pine, pewter, emerald, espresso, and apple. Firm underfoot, very flat and sturdy. Some light surface abrasion.
