Shortbarrel [OZ] 8-Year American Light Whiskey 144 proof - Selected by Seelbach's
Age: 8 Years Proof: 144 proof Source: Owensboro, KY Mash bill: 91/9 Corn/Malted barley Tasting Notes: Plump, rounded brown sugar syrup, cigar box, cedar, and cotton candy grapes lead on the nose. It’s heavy, potent, and pleasantly aromatic. The palate tastes every bit of its proof up front, but it’s enjoyable and welcome. There’s plenty of brûléed oak, cigar box nuance, cotton candy grapes, and gobs of brown sugar lingering long and tingly on the palate. Rich and viscous, as expected, with buttery fruit, heat, and softer oak, but with a bit more developed flavor than the typical birthday cake notes of Indiana light whiskey. The finish softens considerably from the start of the palate, dare I say delicate for the proof, with subtle Champagne and rum-like nuances that continue long on the palate alongside beautiful sweet oak.
