This silk scarf is hand painted by Louise Loughman in Swallow Studios in County Monaghan Size 180 x 45 cm This scarf has a Celitc design that was inspired by the stone carvings found at Newgrange on of the oldest megalithic sights in the world. Each scarf comes in a gift box I can send directly as a gift just let me know and I will add a hand made card with your message The Celtic design is done in the art of batik this is when you use hot wax to create shapes on fabric The wax works as a resist and blocks the dye soaking into certain areas The great thing about using wax to draw and paint with is you get all these fine lines and translusent textures throughout the wax painting. The wax is removed by ironing the fabric between sheets of newspaper or newsprint I like to use old newspapers to get a second use out of them. The scarf is then washed and Ironed from wet to leave a beautiful silky smooth finish.
