Handmade by traditional artisans, this Afghan Kunduz runner is expertly crafted and emphasizes the lasting beauty of wool dyed with natural vegetable colors. Dyed with madder root for its deep red hue, it features a striking all-over pattern with detailed designs at the ends. Made from Karakul sheep's wool and hand-knotted, this runner offers both durability and timeless visual appeal, making it an attractive and functional addition to any hallway or corridor. Afghan hand-knotted Kunduz rugs and carpets are available in various sizes and are produced in villages surrounding Kunduz in northern Afghanistan. The rich red of these rugs is created by boiling the madder root, which grows wild in Afghanistan. They are then finely knotted from Karakul sheep's wool, making them hard-wearing, whilst the colour and design make them highly practical. Afghan Kunduz and Afghan Khal Mohammadi rugs may occasionally look quite similar. However, the Kunduz are generally finer-knotted and have more detail in their patterns. Both of these rugs use the same madder plant to create the vegetable-dyed wool that is so hard-wearing. The company's provenance and the rug are worth considering when buying online.
