Produced between 1988 and 2000, the 16520 marked a watershed moment for the Daytona, introducing the first automatic movement to the collection in the form of the modified Zenith El Primero calibre, designated by Rolex as the Cal. 4030. Housed in a 40 mm stainless steel case with a tachymetre-engraved bezel and screw-down pushers, the white-dial 16520 has become one of the defining references of the modern vintage Rolex market, sought after for its clean legibility, its mechanical pedigree, and the subtle dial variations that developed across its twelve-year production run. As the last Daytona to use an externally sourced movement before Rolex transitioned to the fully in-house Cal. 4130 with the Ref. 116520, the 16520 occupies a unique position: the final chapter of one era and the bridge to the next, with a collector following that continues to intensify with each passing year.
