Vintique Rhodolite Garnet Belcher Ring, Sterling Silver, size O1/2 or 7.5, 2.44g

Hallmarks like this make us weak at the knees. Pair them with a jewellery style popular in Victorian times and our hearts are a flutter. The belcher setting is said to have got its name from Thomas Belcher who was a boxer in the Early 1800s who was said to wear a ring in much the same style as this. With gorgeous buttercup petals it is easy to see why this was such a winning style of ring. Fabulous protection for the stone in the petals, the multiclaw setting, the height that allowed light in and the petals that bounce the colour and light around - all such winners. This amazing ring bears the hallmark "SILVER" which was most commonly used in the USA (and other countries - although not Australia or the UK) and only prior to the 1970s. This fabulous mark tells us this ring was not made in Australia and is well over 50 years in age. We love a rhodolite garnet - those rich winey pinks and purple jam hues. This gorgeous stone is clearly natural - some inclusions with the loupe - and it in the sunshine those bright purples jump from the edges of the stone or in reflection in the buttercups. Particulars: Size O1/2 or 7.5 (sizeable) Weight 2.44g Width 11 x 13.3 x 5.3mm proud on a half round shank of 2.35 x 1.2mm Stone - natural hand cut rhodolite garnet - 9.1 x 7.12mm - approx 1.5ct Hallmarks "SILVER" Condition - this is a ring with age and character. The stone is hand cut and the colour disperses in bursts around the edges (like a fringe) rather than through the middle like a modern cut stone. It is deep and dark and wonderful. The vintique belcher setting is in good condition for its age - but there is some surface and claw wear - as expected. Care - As a general rule - jewellery should not be worn for strenuous tasks that may put pressure, chemicals and weight on them (think cleaning, gym, swimming/spa, carrying things). Jewellery should be inspected checked every six months by a jeweller to check for wear. Please be aware that this item is pre-loved and therefore is NOT new.
