The Quail Run

JC is a mountain quail who has always lived on the edge of things. In Montreal, he learned how to survive busy streets, noisy patios, and humans who dropped crumbs without noticing who gathered them. He was careful, observant, and used to being overlooked. He never expected that a simple mistake, following the scent of sunflower seeds onto the wrong truck, would carry him across Canada to an unfamiliar place called Guisachan Heritage Garden. There, JC meets a close-knit flock of california quails who train together every day. Under the steady leadership of Charlie, the boundless energy of Zig, and the open-hearted optimism of Bumble, the flock prepares for the Quail Run, a demanding test of focus, trust, and survival that teaches each quail how to move wisely through a dangerous world. But the garden is not as peaceful as it appears. Kringle, a sharp-eyed Maine Coon, prowls the garden patiently, always searching for weakness. Roads, dogs, and sudden human activity turn safe places into risky ones. The land itself still holds the memory of wildfire, a reminder of how quickly everything can change. Beyond the fence, a quiet coyote named Ash moves through the territory, guided by instinct and restraint, challenging the flock to understand fear without being ruled by it. As the season builds toward the most important Quail Run of all, JC must decide whether he will continue to live cautiously on the margins, or step forward and trust himself, and the flock, when it matters most.
