Estate 2022 Lagrein
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, 92 Points - "Combining sweet fruit flavours with savoury nuances, it's beautifully lifted on the nose with dark berry, smoked meat, brown spice and almond characters. The palate displays succulent fruit intensity with fleshy texture and loads of polished tannins, finishing robust and lingering." Vegan Australia Certified COLOUR: Clean clear dark cherry red of good intensity with a soft purple edge and cling on the swirl. NOSE: Clean evolving aromas of blueberry, liquorice twig and nuances violets and mocha toast. PALATE: Clean medium bodies flavours of blackberry, dark stewed plum carried by a sweet herbaceous vapour and rounded tannins that expand across the palate. A long satisfying finish of fresh cherry and sweet nutmeg. WINEMAKING: A native of the Alto Adige in North Eastern Italy, this curious dark-skinned grape is the first variety on our vineyard to bud burst in the spring and generally the last grape to harvest. Our local cockatoo population has a special penchant for its flavour and thus we must net in the weeks prior to harvest. FOOD PAIRING: Lamb Cutlets with peppery creamy buttered mash. VINTAGE NOTES: Cool conditions in early spring led into a warm and dry period for flowering producing a balanced crop load across all varieties. A warm dry summer subsided into a prolonged cool autumn and the subsequent extended 2022 growing season created optimum ripening conditions for full flavour development prior to a slighter later harvest.
