QUAD Elegan 2 Floorstanding Loudspeakers

The QUAD Elegan 2 is a three-way bass reflex floorstanding loudspeaker. It is the larger model in the Elegan series, shares its engineering approach with the Elegan 1, and is designed for larger listening rooms. Drivers Two 165 mm woven Kevlar cones handle the bass. A 125 mm woven Kevlar midrange driver sits in its own isolated enclosure inside the cabinet. The 25 mm fabric dome tweeter is the same unit used in the Elegan 1 and is mounted in a profiled waveguide that controls dispersion. The bass and midrange cones are lattice-woven Kevlar treated with a self-damping resin. Crossover A Linkwitz-Riley network divides the signal at 480 Hz and 2.7 kHz. It uses second-order slopes between the bass and midrange drivers and fourth-order slopes between the midrange and tweeter. Polypropylene capacitors are used throughout. Cabinet and bass The cabinet is internally braced to control resonance. The bass and midrange sections have internal volumes of 31 and 14.5 litres. QUAD's Airflow bass reflex system reduces port turbulence. QUAD rates bass extension at 32 Hz (-6 dB). Setup and finishes The Elegan 2 stands on a plinth that takes adjustable spikes, and screw-in rubber feet are supplied for wood or stone floors. Sensitivity is 90 dB, and QUAD recommends 30 to 200 watts of amplifier power. Finishes are matte black, or real walnut veneer with a matte black front baffle.
