Biographies of Baptist heroes and martyrs, with a focus on Russia; a dozen or so of the sixteen individual portraits have Russian names. Also includes Baptists from Brazil, Haiti, Mexico, Germany, and China. John Newton Prestridge (1853-1913), b. Selma, Alabama; d. Louisville, Kentucky. He was a Baptist pastor, missionary, and the editor of the Baptist World. He organized and promoted the Baptist World Congress held in London in 1905, which led to the formation of the Baptist World Alliance.
