HELEN'S HILL HILL TOP SYRAH

Helen’s Hill is one of my favourite producers at the moment. Everything they make seems to hit the mark, and the HillTop Syrah is another cracking example. Sourced from vines at the highest point of the estate, this is a beautifully refined cool-climate Syrah. There’s dark berry fruit, plum and blackberry, with violet, black pepper, liquorice and a lovely savoury edge running through it. What I really like is the balance. It has plenty of flavour and structure, but it never feels heavy. The tannins are fine, the acidity keeps everything fresh, and there’s a subtle smokiness and spice that gives the wine real character. For me, Helen’s Hill is one of those producers you can buy from with confidence. Everything across the range is fantastic, and this is a great example of just how good Yarra Valley Syrah can be.
