Eirik Johnson : Leviathan Rising

Seul à bord d’un petit kayak de mer, le photographe Eirik Johnson dérive le long de la rivière Duwamish, dans l’État de Washington, sous les immenses coques de cargos transocéaniques, réalisant des photographies dans ces espaces surréalistes. Les navires qui empruntent le Passage Intérieur pour acheminer des marchandises depuis et vers les eaux de l’Alaska, à destination des ports de la façade pacifique, font souvent escale sur la Duwamish, un écosystème fluvial profondément pollué qui se déverse dans la mer des Salish. Alone in a small sea kayak, photographer Eirik Johnson floats along Washington State’s Duwamish River beneath the massive hulls of transoceanic barges, making photographs from these surreal spaces. The vessels that travel along the Inside Passage carrying goods to and from Alaskan waters to ports along the Pacific Rim often port in the Duwamish, a deeply polluted river ecosystem that flows into the Salish Sea.
